The students will learn about God as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Students will be doing collaborative activities, reflections, worksheets and participating in daily discussions on how to continue to be faithful and positive individuals. Math Our math curriculum incorporates concepts learned in the previous grade and enhances opportunities to acquire new skills. Our goals are to improve the students’ skills in counting, number recognition, adding and subtracting, problem solving, place values, and concepts of money and time. Science/Social Studies The science curriculum will focus on life science with an emphasis on living things long ago. The students will be learning about grouping of animals along with extinct and endangered animals. Then, we will be learning about the process of the plant cycle, the effects and characteristics of the sun, and the basic concepts of matter. In Social Studies, the students will be exploring the seven continents. We will be “traveling” through different countries throughout the world learning about their history and the oceans that surround them Spelling-Spalding The Spalding Method is the approach the primary grades utilize in teaching reading, writing and spelling. Five words will be given each day with a final test on Friday. Language Arts Throughout the year the students will be encouraged to grow and develop their skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. We will be focusing on vocabulary, comprehension with an emphasis of recalling main ideas, and reading different genres. The students will be incorporating critical thinking skills to predict outcomes, identify different genres and recall facts and opinions. Lastly, we will be practicing grammar skills, prewriting strategies and transferring oral thoughts to written language. Grading Grades for each quarter will be based on the students’ classroom performance and test results. Testing will be done on a regular basis in all subject areas. Homework In your child’s homework folder you will find assigned work, unfinished class work, completed tasks or written reminders. If a child comes to school without his/her homework completed, the student will complete it during recess or take it home to finish.
